THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN US
Jane woke up abruptly from a nightmare that she dreamed off: She was in a hotel room that was classy in nature and had a huge bed at the center, her body laid and draped in white sheets that were stained with blood and red roses. The scarlet blood drencehed the white pearly sheets into a ghastly sight of sheer gore and agony. At her feet were several roses that were rich and bloomed fully, as red as the bloodmoon.
Her body seemed intact, with no bruises or cuts. She wore an oversize white shirt that was stained red which had coagulated into solid rubbery blood. She looked around and found the silhoutte of a man covered in black clothing with a knife on one hand. The sheer reflection from the knife gleamed in the moon-light like a lighthouse signalling stray ships home. The huge figure approached her slowly and theatrically. His white teeth shone brightly and his skin was shadowy like a black cat in a dark alley.
All of a sudden she woke up in a stupor as the horrendous man came towards her letting out a shriek wakinh up her cat.
Jane moved to her new apartment that was in Brooklyn, the heart of New York. She lived in a penthouse in a luxurious building called VIVA Towers. A real estate giant that dominated all of New York. Her book sales were immense and she was able to afford the "lifestyle" she always imagined herself to live. She rubbed her eyes gently as she got out of bed. She moaned and groaned as she saw her digital clock reading midnight.
She was craving some coffee, luckily there was a deli not too far from where she resided. She wore a grey hoodie with sweatpants and grey crocs. Her outfit screamed "I need caffeine". She carried her laptop and a physical copy of her book "The difference between us" her agents wanted a sequel to the book but she wanted the book to be a one shot. The idea of a second book was out of the question.
"We need a sequel of that book Jane, your fans are going to love it!" said Cassie her manager always reminding her,
She had no say, the publishing house was counting on her for revenue since she was the first in house writer to get the prestigious award by the Writer's Guild of America as "novel of the year". Her publishing house was now pushing for her second book. She had no choice but to oblige to their demands if she wanted the fame and the bragging rights.
Her silky black hair was twisted into a bun, covered by a black beanie. The weather was chilly on this night, she rubbed her hands to get some warmth but to no avail. She walked down the street to where the nearest Starbucks was. Her hoodie was a perfect fit to curb the cold air.
She entered the coffee shop and was greeted by warm air and the fresh scent of brewed coffee. The lighting was dull and cozy. She approached the counter where a young female barrista asked for her order.
"A vanilla latte with a brioche bun," she told the lady over the counter.
As she keyed in her order, she stopped for a minute looked up intently at Jane gasped with shock and awe.
"Hey! Aren't you the lady who wrote that book? What was it?" she said while scratching her forehead, trying to remember the name of her book, the young female whose employee tag written Mona.
"The difference between us...Yes I am" Jane said smiling wanely.
"Can I have your autograph?" asked the barrista. Who rushed over her purse pulled out her novel and a pen. Jane signed it and after a few minutes later her coffee was ready.
She sat at the back in a booth by herself. She looked timid and frail, her eyes were tired and her body was groggy. She took a sip of her vanilla latte and instantly loved the potent flavors and aromas. She became engrossed in her work: taking notes, editing material and writing work emails. Then, an eeire feeling crept through her spine, a cold chill as if a ghost was nearby.
She lifted her head and saw a man wearing a black leather jacket. Something about this tall gentleman made her question so many things. And then like a bell in her head,it hit her, it was the same strange handsome man that came to her book signing two weeks ago. She was baffled at the coincidence. Fate has a way of pulling unlikely scenarios into the most significant moments in persons lives or so she thought.
The young man had dark silky hair and olive like skin that was smooth to the touch. His jaw bone was well profound and his shoulders were loose. He would rock them back and forth into a smooth motion. Jane's body temperature started to rise, a bead of sweat trickled down her forhead. Her legs would start to girate in spams. What is this? What am I feeling now? She asked her unkown god.
The man walked up to the booth, with a swift motion he held out his right hand and shook her hand. Jane was trembling in fear; or maybe reverence. Her cheeks were red and she was blushing immensly. He smiled at her showing his perfectly white teeth that looked like he had a veeners procedure.
Her palms were sweaty and her heart was pounding so hard she could hear her own heartbeat. She was charmed by his personality, his confidence was radiant and attractive. He was a good conversationlist with a servere entertaining personlity. She would slightly stammer everytime she was asked a question. She swam in his deep blue eyes that resembled the ocean.
She loved them, she drowned in them...
