THE CUBICLE
THE CUBICLE
CHAPTER SEVEN
After his release from the Asylum. Michael became
better mentally despite the torture he endured while being turned from a maniac
to someone who could be of use to society. His life seemed to have meaning once
again despite his finances. He was booked to see a therapist every three weeks
for psych evaluation.
He was also given a job as an assistant clerk in a
nearby shipping company near the docks. After much struggle life seemed to have
meaning once again. He even met a woman by the name of Sarah at a nearby coffee
shop, they exchanged numbers and had been chatting ever since. Michael was
infatuated by her silky-smooth skin and glowing radiant blonde hair.
She was very attractive and Michael was lucky. Michael
moved out of his apartment and lived near upstate in a one-bedroom flat,
spacious enough for his hallucinations to be kept at bay. He loved it there.
The air was fresher and there was a small garden at the rooftop. So, whenever
he wanted to unwind, he went there to breathe in the fresh air and smell the
beautiful flowers.
Michael and Sarah had been dating for six months now.
“Sarah I…I need to tell you something” said Michael
Murdock as they were having a date at a nearby pizzeria.
“What is it, Michael?” asked Sarah with love and
concern in her sweet voice.
“You don’t know the real me…Sarah, I have a different
side, an ugly side” said Michael his hands trembling and his palms sweaty.
“You can tell me anything Michael” said Sarah as he
looked him dead in the eyes and a faint smile across her cheeks.
“I have a mental illness, the doctors don’t know what
it is, could be schizo or bipolar or even both: my diagnosis has been reviewed
by the best doctors in the states and have come up with a null classification.
The illness is complex and it may affect you…” said Michael looking down at the
checkered floor sad and pouting.
“I don’t care Michael. I love you just the way you are”
said Sarah coming closer towards him and giving him a peck on the cheek.
Michael blushed and smiled wanly.
They finished their peperoni cheese stuffed pizza and
headed for his apartment.
The day was warm as it was summer in New York. People
were seen fanning themselves with porcelain dishes and other paraphernalia. The
sun sunk into the horizon like a raving fireball, its size doubled more than
usual. Its yellow rays sun kissing their cheeks leaving long silhouettes on the
ground they trotted on.
They walked past a small noodle shop and went up the
stairs into the building. They slid into the elevator effortlessly. And exited
all the same. They entered his apartment which had boxes of clothes and a huge
pile of books as he was unpacking and getting familiar with the apartment.
Sarah kissed him, Michael kissed her back. They took
of each other clothes: the romance, steamy and hot and they made love all
night.
The morning came fast and Michael was still asleep as
Sarah went into the kitchen wearing an oversized shirt and made fresh pancakes
and coffee for the both of them. The apartment smelt of fresh banana chocolate
pancakes with fresh black coffee lingering in the air. A reminiscing feeling from
his childhood.
He woke up exhilarated and love sick.
And sauntered towards the kitchen.
“Good morning sleepy head” she said jokingly.
“Good morning” said Michael hugging her from behind as
she twirled slightly and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
“Shouldn’t you be at work?” asked Michael.
“I took a double shift the other day. I think I am
eligible for a day off, Wanda will cover for me,” said Sarah.
After breakfast they laid in bed with sweet pillow
talk about their future together: kids, a house and a family-owned business. Michael
drunk in love kissed her again first slowly and then working his way under her garments.
They made love once again: heated and romantic.
