WOODCREEK
CHAPTER NINE
Cassidy Woodcreek sat on the bleachers of the Franklin
Stadium together with her boyfriend Jake Hunter who was a quarter back for the
Texas Giants. With his right arm wrapped around her, he stole a kiss on the
cheek. Life seemed to slow down whenever he was around Cass. Her beauty was
unmatched to any of her friends, she was by far the prettiest, a goddess if you
will.
Her blonde hair flapped in the dry wind with glory like
the color of the sun. The band played loud orchestra music with a hip hop under
tone. The drums beat with great bass, while the trumpets and saxophones let out
a sweet texture to the rhythm of the anthems. The Texas Giants were two up
against the Miami Dolphins this made the crowd cheer and go wild.
The crowd was immense, people from all walks of life
flooded the stadium some taking pictures that they would share to friends and
family abroad showing off the American Dream while others just sat there
reveled at the players crushing each other, body against body colliding
aimlessly to win the football.
The night sky was so clear you could see all the
stars. Beautifully crafted constellations could be seen from the stadium all
seemed glorious and picturesque, a shooting star dashed at great speed from the
corner of Cassidy’s eye she solely made a wish to herself, let me marry Jake I
ask only this she said in a whisper wishing to the Universe at hand.
She got out of stupor when Jake came with the drinks.
Her eyes danced all across the football field like a marionette. Cheerleaders
were seen dancing right below the foot of the stadium making their bodies twist
and turn like wild contortionists. There they sang songs of victory and velour
shaking their pom-poms vigorously.
Some were flung high and mighty by the men
cheerleaders, a great routine they had practiced over and over again until it
was their second nature. There on the field the players played valiantly almost
heroic, they played with honor and resilient spirits. Bodies colliding, a
quarter back stretched his arm wide open for an excellent touchdown dodging two
players in defense.
The crowd went wild.
As the buzzer went off. Jake stole another kiss that
made Cassidy blush all the more. She loved Jake every ounce of him, his flaws,
his perfect white teeth and most of all his tender care. She wanted babies with
him and no one else. She wanted to get engaged but Jake was always giving
excuses about how his career must come first and how he was not ready for
commitment at the moment.
This crushed Cassidy but if it was true love…she would
wait.
Holding hands long after the game over they walked
towards their car in the parking lot slowly savoring the night and its
loveliness. There, soaked in love they made love under the moonlight. There in
the darkness of the night, little did they not know they were being watched
cautiously.
A suspicious looking car, a black Cadillac with tinted
windows pulled over right in front of them. Cassidy screamed in despair as two
hooded huge men jumped them, one of the two pulled a knife on Cassidy dragging
her by the hair, shoving her inside the back of the saloon car.
“Cassidy Nooo!” cried Jake at the top of his lungs.
The assailant stabbing him on the chest.
“Jake!” Cassidy screamed in a high pitch voice. By
standers left in shock as the kidnappers hoped back in the car and screeched
off the parking lot. There in the parking lot lay Jake on the ground bleeding
out profusely.
Witnesses rushed towards him to offer assistance but
it was too late, his body and soul perished. Some tried to stop the bleeding
but it was futile. Quickly, they called an ambulance. The 911 dispatch came
right away flooding the parking lot with blue and red colors, sirens blaring.
Moments later, the police arrived only for Jake to be
pronounced dead at the crime scene. There the crowd watched over the dead
docile body of Jake, concerned and extremely frightened by the grotesque scene.
Police were seen in full police uniform collecting any information about the
unknown assailants. A yellow tape was divided along the parking lot to separate
the crime scene from the civilians.
The boys in blue formed a barrier from the
surroundings to keep any contamination of evidence. The paramedics came out
with a stretcher to carry Jake’s deceased body off the ground, a clean sheet
covered the body filled with blood. News reporters were at the scene reporting
the latest developments, their elegant suits seemed out of place and odd.
The reporters giving updates every minute to the
evolving situations. The witnesses giving testimonies on what had transpired. An
elderly woman who had come to watch the game was on air giving a frightened
account on what had happened. From the stabbing to the kidnapping, she said it
all after giving her two cents to the police officers.
Michael got over the phone with his lawyer and best
friend Lucious, where they discussed business and the recent development of El
Jeffe going behind their backs and smuggling weapons instead of the usual dope.
They went over the drug bust that almost costed them his reputation.
They discussed the FBI agent who almost had a drop on
them…Wendy she was the newest recruit in the force she came to El paso as a DEA
agent all the way from Detroit. An enthusiastic woman who had a knack for crime
fighting, she had been in the military so did Michael Woodcreek later learn
from Lucious, a resilient and defying woman.
“Keep me in the loop, she seems as though she will be
a threat, incorruptible” said Michael as he sipped his glass of Bourbon
conversing with Lucious over the phone.
“Michael! Michael! Michael!” cried Lucy Woodcreek from
the kitchen counter.
Michael startled hang up the phone and hurried towards
the living room.
“Michael its Cassidy!” she said over the house phone.
“It’s the police” she quickly handed the landline to
him.
There, stood Michael transfixed on the ground like a
statue as he heard the nerve-wrecking news from the police. Shocked, his
shoulders dropped, listening intently to the sorrowful voice of the police
captain. He dropped the phone and dashed outside towards the garage. He got
into his black BMW and sped off.
He arrived at the stadium, his heart pounding out of
his chest, his palms sweaty. A bead of sweat trickled from his forehead, his
vision blurry and a tightness in his chest. Kent, the Police Captain ushered
him in to the crime scene, they were great friends they would play golf every
Sunday together with the Police Commissioner but on this fateful night, sorrow
burrowed deep in their minds.
There on the crime scene was a pool of Jake’s blood corrugated
into the deep tarmacked parking lot. His eyes and ears couldn’t believe his
senses. Everything seemed to move in slow motion, his heart racing as he
received the news.
My dear Cassidy…
What have they done?...
I will avenge whoever did this…
