SINNERS
SINNERS
CHAPTER TWO
Bucky BonAires stared at the ceiling of his hospital
bed with great despair. He stared at the checkered boxes black and white with
great scrutiny as if looking to decipher a great and ancient puzzle. He struggled
to find meaning in all of it: His brothers’ death, the car crash and all in all
the bereavement of his family. A strong weight could be felt across his shoulders;
the weight of the world made him heavy and emotional.
Tears danced around his cheeks like a raging
waterfall. He couldn’t believe his brother was no longer alive he was the closest
thing to happiness for him. He loved Joseph, to see him no longer alive made
him lament the cursed day of the car accident.
He played countless scenarios of how he could have
changed the situation but all seemed futile. He was alone in all this. The
funeral took place today but he was in no condition to join his family to pay
his last respect. IVs filled with green liquid hung above him, blood being
trickled into his veins like a canon waterfall.
The smell of sterile liquids and medication rented the
air. He couldn’t taste hospital food as the medications made him numb from any physical
taste. The soft hum of the air conditioner gave him sleepless nights and would
take over his sleep like a rhetoric lullaby. Outside was a slight drizzle that
gave birth to an iridescent rainbow. He did not deserve to live; he was to take
his brother’s place in the pit.
His ribs were bandaged and his arms were brandished with
all kinds of medical paraphernalia like a mummy in its tomb. The door swung
open slowly to reveal his mother, Maria BonAires. She looked at him with great
mercy and pity. She sauntered across the room and sat by the chair beside him.
Her long soft silver hair, that was once blonde made
her all the more beautiful under the rainbows edge. Her eyes were filled with
tears as she clasped her hands with his son’s. He felt her warm hand against
his cold veins that radiated hope and love. A beautiful gesture. He cried
uncontrollably.
“I have to go honey…your aunts and uncles are waiting
for me downstairs. We’ll catch up later” she said in a soft sweet tone.
He let go of her arm and studied her face, a look of
great love warmed him.
Midnight
Bucky woke up with a jolt. He dreamed of the car
accident and watching his brother die at his behest. He had blood on his hands
and would never forgive himself. The room was chill and cold, Bucky tried to
cover himself with the bed sheets but that did not stop the cold.
A nurse came inside to give him some medication and
left as soon as he took them. He felt a warm presence that left him questioning
his sanity. Finally, he heard a voice a loud booming one, his eyes shot up to
the once abandoned ceiling. Up there he could see a thick mist and a bright
radiating light that made the whole room glow in perpetuity.
Bucky BonAires you are chosen
You shall be my herald for these dark
times
I am your reckoning
Bucky feeling quite bewildered spoke to the mysterious
entity.
What do you mean?
Silence.
Then a tongue of fire appeared on his head and quickly
vanished before it got to his crown. Suddenly he felt a huge warm presence, he
was filled with visions of people committing violent acts: murders, corruption,
stealing to mention a few.
How could this be possible?
The warm mist faded as if going through the walls of
the hospital ceiling. Bucky was lost for words. He felt an immense power in his
veins, his wounds were completely healed and he felt like a god.
