CHAPTER EIGHT

Night City

Night always loomed in Night City, its eternal darkness stared into a pit of obsidian darkness together with its inhabitants. Dark clouds formed from the sky like watchful diabolical sentinels, and under them was rain, a lot of it. It poured so much there was no more rain left in the smokes under bellies. This time the rain was acidic, sulfuric and futile. The rain corroded all kinds of metal, peeled the skin off its people and its lightning led to many black outs. Night City was at its final night.

The air was thick and unbreathable filled with toxins of which Gangus the Rogue leader let loose in the city. The citizens of Night City wore masks that covered their faces to filter the oxygen but there was no match for the toxic air. Bodies on the street were seen piled high like an unwavering mountain. People lit fires on the streets as there was no form electricity and also to keep their poor homeless souls’ warm.

The Rogues took over the city. Laying a wake of terror and rampage. It was absolute havoc. Prisoners were seen broken free by the evil syndicate and were robbing the rich in their comforts of their home. In order to restore balance said Gangus his toxic words ringing inside their heads. With a fresh supply of weapons. Stores were raided, people were left homeless as they broke into innocent homes and set them ablaze.

The Night City Police Station was over run by bandits and now the police were criminals an ironic picture. The defenders were now criminals and the prisoners were now liberators the Gangus’ words ringing in their ears like old hymns. Riddled with explosives Night City burned like an infernal fire.

The hospitals were all full to the brim as patients flooded the emergency rooms. Nurses were overwhelmed by the sheer amount of people coming in for medical treatment. Some infected by the deadly pathogen released into the air by Gangus and the Rogues. Patients’ skin would peel off and form blisters that were painful and antagonizing. The victims screamed in pain as the nurses’ applied bandages and soothing gels.

While others were being nursed from gunshot wounds and even knife wounds accredited from the criminal gangs that now lay rampant on all of Night City. The corners’ office was at maximum capacity as bodies piled up. Some of the undertakers had to revert to burning the victims to prevent the plague from spreading. The bereaved mourned until they would not mourn anymore.

For the first time in the century Night City was under occupation.

With the help of the National Guard Jay and his fellow cyber squad member emerged from the ashes like a rising Phoenix. But they were ashamed to show their faces. They had failed its people once again. They did what they did best and fought in the shadows away from the media or the radar as they were all pronounced dead as a “cover up” story.

Downtown, Night City

Their Lieutenant was dead and Jay was the only subordinate leader. They’re in the shadows they formulated a plan. In order to restore order, they had to cut off the head of the snake and not middle men like the Yakuza.

“Okay gang, we have exactly twelve hours until the toxins released, goes into the air space and kills every living thing on Earth. Our mission is to infiltrate an unknown bunker that is rumored to harbor the war criminal known as Gangus” said Jay as he motioned his wrist towards the hologram before them, with a maestro like motion.

“Won’t he know we are coming for him, like last time?” said Cynch.

“Unlikely, our deaths were pretty well broadcasted over the networks. He won’t know we are coming for him; we have the advantage,” said Jay.

“What about weapons?” asked Braxton. “We are going to need a lot of fire power if we are going against the big bad wolf.”

“There is a hidden compartment inside the safe house, you will find everything you need.” Said Jay.

Ghost remained silent watching everyone with great precision. Jay would not question him or bother him. He knew Ghost was the brains of the group even more than him. If there were any gaps to be filled Ghost would say something. For now, he kept silent like a scarecrow.

Harley shot her arm up as if in grade school.

“We are going to need to be stealthy for this mission,” said Harley. “We can’t go in guns blazing. Who knows what Gangus has under his sleeve” said Harley smiling wanly as if half mad.

“Yes, this is a covert secret stealth mission,” said Jay.

“Any more questions?” asked Jay

“Now let’s go get this mother-!”
