THE AMAPIANO EFFECT
Music has always played a big role in my life since inception. I always enjoyed it during in my low moments and high, it has been the soothing to my wounds. The most interesting thing I would say for me is that my taste is divergent I don't isolate myself to one particular genre, it's kind of like I have genrephobia from Rock to Hip-hop my muse is that when it comes to music I do not discriminate. As long as it sounds good I am definitely listening to it.
People have always told me I have a venerable taste in music and I take pride in that. Music for me relieves stress, brightens my mood and a general sense of well being. Now in recent years I have been bumping to a lot of Amapiano there is something magical about it, the beats, the drums, make me get goosebumps. It is as if my ancestors are speaking to me!
Now being from Kenya, I do not understand their native languages of the South African People, our cousins...All the more better, it helps with my OCD(Obsessive Compulsive Order) I get lost in their clicks and sweet vocals. I don't understand it I must reiterate but I do mystically. That is the power of music, the ability to bring people together despite race, nationality and skin color.
I sometimes try and learn their language through the lyrics and I absolutely love it! I am more interested in it than my own native language me being an Agikuyu tribe, people of the mountain, embarrassing right? I don't think so. You see I was raised in an environment where English was the primary language spoken, at school, at home, at family gatherings e.t.c
It is only when we truly humble ourselves is when we see that our native language or mother tongue is as beautiful as the sun and stars! The good thing is that when we come together and we are able to vibe to the new sound and meet people of similar interests we achieve a singularity.
Nandhipha Amapiano!
One community, one love as Bob Marley said.
